The following recipes are from the Kids in the Kitchen cookbook. To buy your own copy, email us.

The recipes are set out for you in easy to follow steps. These recipes can be made by children with little or no help from an adult but it is a good idea to make sure there is someone around to ask any questions or give a bit of help if needed.

Print out a copy of the recipes that you want to make. Check that you have all the ingredients and equipment in the recipe and get them all out before you start.

Recipes
Requires chopping with sharp knives or use of complicated utensils, using several hotplates, more complicated recipes with more ingredients.

Suitable for years 6 - 7.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
  1. Be a clean cook
 

• Wash your hands before you start to   cook.
• Wear an apron or play clothes.
• Wash all the vegetables and fruit in   your recipe before you start to   prepare them.
• Don’t lick your fingers or any utensils   until you have finished cooking.
• Always wash and put away all your   utensils and clean up the cooking   area when you have finished   cooking.

 
 
  2. Be a careful cook
 

Using the oven or stove:
• Adjust any oven shelves before you   turn on the oven.
• Turn the oven on to the correct   temperature before you start to cook
• Use oven mitts to remove hot dishes   from the oven or stove.
• Remember to turn off the oven or   stove after you have finished cooking.

 
 
  3. Using knives
  • Be careful when using sharp knives,   keep fingers away from the blade.
• Always cut food on a chopping board.
